(First seen on Quinta's weblog)
Baekdal.com has a simple yet insightful interpretation of the role of media in history, challenges advertisers and PR professionals to look at the future...«Ask yourself. Are you still trying to get journalists to write about your products? Are you still making websites? Is your social networking strategy to ‘get a Facebook Page'?»
...and attempts a forecast through 2020.«In this article, we are going to take a little tour through the history of information - or more specifically where to focus efforts if you want get in touch with other people. It is really exciting time, because we are currently in the middle of the most drastic change since the invention of the newspaper.»
To put the current state of Italian media, you should probably have a look at 2002.

Yes, we can (Part VI) - Follow Michael Jordan's advice...
Inspiring Michael Jordan commercial.
Or, like Nike said 20 years ago, just do it.
Simple and straightforward, no excuses.

Italian media...online? Hopeless, for some (Part III)
(via Quinta's weblog, Manteblog, Nicola Mattina and Luca de Biase among others)
Davide Rossi, Chairman of Univideo (Italian Audiovisual Media industry association), recently stated in front of the Italian Parliament (free translation from Italian):
«My personal opinion is that Internet is of no use to mankind...because it hasn't solved the issue of poverty, nor that of famine.»
«The bad news is that the Internet has not and will not improve the world we live in. The good news is that it won't make the world worse either.»
Worth listening to the entire five minute speech, if only to realise how some industry leaders (amazingly?) perceive the Internet and the impact it is having on the media industry and on society in general.
Hopeless.
PS Among the flurry of insults, some of the comments on the blogs I liked above and on the YouTube video are hilarious.

Italian media...online? There's hope (Part II)
(from Piovono rane via manteblog, freely translated from Italian)
Great, if somewhat unexpected, news from Alessandro Gilioli:
“Blogs hosted by L’espresso account for roughly one third of total traffic, that (January 2009 data) was 1.232.844 unique visitors and 6.148.600 page views per month.”For readers not fully aware of the Italian media industry, Gruppo Editoriale L'Espresso is one of the major media groups, spanning from publishing to radio to TV as well as online. Its websites, grouped around the repubblica.it domain name, are constantly among the top 10 in Italy.
Even if the proportion refers to the espresso.repubblica.it domain (online version of L'Espresso) this is something everyone in the media industry should take note of, starting from journalists and advertisers.
(Yes, that's you. Your audience is moving, rapidly. Do you want to lead, or play catch-up?)
It would be extremely interesting to have similar data for similar websites...anyone?

In the digital age, does censorship work?
Campaign by Telefono Donna against women abuse.
Censored by the Milan local council, blogged all over Italy
I guess more children have seen this because the campaign was censored than if fifty posters were put up on walls around Milan

Wazzup!? Obama!
Back in 2000, Budweiser produced a great ad showing five friends "watching the game, having a bud..." - cult for anyone living in London or New York at the time.
Eight years later, the same five guys are back - and brilliant! Life hasn't been good, "lost my home, looking for a job...", but now there's hope for change.
Frua: that was so Brechin Place!
